As of 2010 the European circuits will welcome another GT racing series, the SUPERSTARS GTSPRINT series. The new series, which will race during the International SUPERSTARS series weekends, will be open for GT2, GT3 and GT4 cars. Two sprint races are planned each race weekend.
FG Group, previously known as the Flammini Group, will be the organiser of the series. Its FG Sport division is already the organiser and promotor of the World Superbike Championship and the Italian and International SUPERSTARS Series, which also ran at Portimão during the Le Mans Series weekend earlier this year.
The GTSPRINT series will have two races each weekend, both 25 minutes + 1 lap long. The decision to have GT sprint races was taken so that the races would be “more suitable for television broadcasts and they will have a greater appeal for the spectators”.
Six rounds will make up the opening season of the SUPERSTARS GTSPRINT series. Three rounds will be held in Italy, while rounds in Portugal, Germany and France are also planned.
Unfortunately the GTSPRINT rounds at Portimão and Paul Ricard clash with the FIA GT2 and FIA GT3 running at Brno and Portimão, the final round at Vallelunga clashes with FIA GT2 at Zolder while the race at Hockenheim is planned during the Le Mans 24 Hours weekend. We therefore wonder which (Italian GT) teams will race in this series…
The calendar for 2010:
Round 1 - Monza - March 27-28
Round 2 - Imola - April 17-18
Round 3 - Portimão - May 22-23
Round 4 - Hockenheim - June 12-13
Round 5 - Paul Ricard - September 18-19
Round 6 - Vallelunga - October 9-10
South Europeans….. After the International GT Open another attemp to hit the real promotors of GT racing in Europe… Yes, SRO. But, I must agree, in my opinion , this is series is already death before it’s born. The SUPERSTARS series is also a minor series in comparison with WTCC, BTCC, DTM, Supercar V8 and so on……
is becoming a JOKE, there are too many GT series now…enough !!!
