After its debut season in the Le Mans Series (LMS), team Kolles is planning to take part again in the most prestigious sports car championship of the world with the Audi R10 TDI in the upcoming season 2010.

Apart from the experiences they gained in the past season, surely the specification of the regulations made by the organizer Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) will have a hand in the competitiveness of the successfull LMP1 of Audi.

Beside the five LMS races in Europe, team Kolles targets to participate in the legendary 24 hours race in Le Mans. In 2009 at their premiere at the Sarthe the squad from Greding finished seventh and ninth out of 51 competitors at first go and therefore second best private team.

But the team around principal Dr. Colin Kolles also intends to be present around the world and take part in the newly created Le Mans Intercontinental Cup (LMIC). The LMIC is reserved for the LMP1 prototypes and will consist of the major races of the Le Mans Series in Europe, the USA and Asia and aims to continue the heyday of the legendary World Sportscar Championship for makes.

The team- and manufacturer-championship of this cup will be based on the overall results of these events. The hopes of team Kolles are high, as Oliver Jarvis and Christian Bakkerud finished straight on podium at the first race of the Asian Le Mans Series in Okayama in 2009.

Drivers line-up will be announced the upcoming weeks.

  2. Audi needs to give them enough updates to at least be competitive and on pace with the best petrol cars (Orecas, pescarolos, lola coupes, Zyteks).

If not then what’s the advantage? Unless Dr Kolles has an audi garage or dealership he’s advertising, why pay more for an R10 when a cheaper Zytek, pescarolo, or oreca can do a better job.

I’m just assuming the R10 costs more, since Dr Kolles is loaded, and Audi won’t give up a proven ride for nothing.

  3. One more entry for Petit LeMans. So sad we might not get to see an evolved Acura P1 machine.

As close as the ARX-02 was to the diesels in qualifying ,next year with more engine work Acura could pull it off. But i guess they have not been working on the P1 car.

  4. it’ll be interesting to see what happens with this team in 2011 when the new change goes into effect and even the r15 might be obsolete, maybe they’ll take a couple (slightly used) r15’s off Audi’s hands eh?

  5. Chris, assuming the new rules go through as planned, neither the R10, nor the R15 will be legal in 2011.
