NISMO (Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd.) today confirmed that is has signed official partnership agreements with Swiss Racing Team and Sumo Power GT for the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship.
The Swiss and British team will run two Nissan GT-Rs each in the new World Championship, where NISMO will support both teams. Swiss Racing Team already confirmed its partnership with NISMO back in November. The team, managed by former Jetalliance Racing and KplusK Motorsport technical director Othmar Welti, is considering Karl Wendlinger as one of their drivers. No announcements were made about the drivers.
With the news that Gigawave MotorSport would not be running the Nissan GT-R in 2010 there were several rumors floating on the internet, with the names of Larbre Competition, CRS Racing and Scuderia Ecosse being on top of most shortlists. Sumo Power GT is an unknown name for most people, although it seems that British JR Motorsports is behind this project. The company ran Mitsubishi Evo Xs in the British Rally Championship and is also behind Sumo Power, “the UK’s number 1 for Japanese performance parts.”
More details about the teams including driver line-ups will be announced at the later date.
