The official launch of the FIA GT1 World Championship is getting closer but more and more details are getting known about the drivers competing in the 2010 GT1 World Championship. Today Nissan Motorsports International Co., Ltd. (NISMO) announced its drivers while the names for the All-Inkl.com Münnich Motorsport Lamborghini Murcielago R-SVs were also revealed.
In a press release issued by Nissan and NISMO about their 2010 motorsport activities the Japanese manufacturer confirmed Karl Wendlinger, Henri Moser and Max Nilsson at Swiss Racing Team again, but the names of the first two drivers at Sumo Power GT were also revealed. Experienced sports car drivers Michael Krumm (Germany) and Peter Dumbreck (Scotland) will share the cockpit of the R35 model Nissan GT-R. The names for the second car have yet to be announced. Krumm and Dumbreck will work with Nigel Stepney as their chief engineer.
We have also learned that All-Inkl.com Münnich Motorsport is set to confirm its driver pairings for the upcoming FIA GT1 World Championship season. Sources in Germany have confirmed that one of the new Lamborghini Murcielago’s will be driven by former Super GT driver Dominik Schwager from Germany and ex-VICI Racing (ALMS) driver Nicky Pastorelli from The Netherlands
The second car would be driven by Marc Basseng, who is also set to take up the role as team manager again like he did with RS-Line Motorsport a couple of years ago. The German is likely to be joined by another Lamborghini veteran, former FIA GT Champion and Le Mans 24 Hours winner Christophe Bouchut.
UPDATE:
Schwager, Pastorelli and Basseng are confirmed as drivers by All-Inkl.com Münnich Motorsports. The fourth driver could be Bouchut, but the French driver has also signed a deal to race in the American Le Mans Series LMPC class. Perhaps selected rounds in both championships?
I must admit to being impressed by the drivers for Sumo, and the Bouchut/Basseng combo.
As for Nigel Stepney…well.
