Like yesterday and as expected the Lola Aston Martin set the fastest time of the session again. The #009 Aston Martin Racing car set its fastest time after only 6 of 76 completed laps around the Sebring International Raceway. Stefan Mücke set the fastest time of 1:46.894.

Three red flags briefly interrupted the session this morning when the Level 5 Motorsports LMPC car stopped and was towed back to the pit, while the Genoa Racing LMPC stopped twice at Turn 3.

With the Lola Aston Martin fastest on the track all the time it was a matter of who would be the next best thing. This time it was the HPD ARX-01c of Brabham, Pagenaud and Franchitti. The Patrón Highcroft Racing #1 was 1.259s slower than the #009, but over three tenths of a second quicker than the #16 Dyson Racing Lola Mazda.

Fastest of the LMPC cars this morning was the Level 5 Motorsports car of Tucker and Bouchut. The Oreca FLM09 posted its fastest lap in 1:57.054, just 0.009s quicker than the #99 Green Earth Team Gunnar. The Genoa Racing #36 was third fastest, some seven tenths of a second behind the two leaders. Despite having had Larry Connor’s name on the timing only yesterday the team had brought in Andy Wallace and JR Hildebrand as well.

Eleventh overall and first of the GT2 cars was the #62 Risi Competizione Ferrari F430 GT of Gianmaria Bruni and Jaime Melo, in 2:02.559. The Italian car was almost four tenths of a second quicker than the #44 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 997 GT3 RSR of Darren Law and Seth Neiman and another tenth quicker than the #45 Lizards Porsche of Bergmeister and Long. Like yesterday the new Jaguar XKRS struggled to find the proper GT2 pace, the #75 finishing in 21st overall, over five seconds behind the Risi Ferrari and just 0.061s ahead of the first GT Challenge Porsche.

That Porsche was the #65 Kelly Moss Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car again. Walton beat Brent Holden in the #44x by six tenths of a second, while the Curtis/Sofronas #32 Porsche finished third in class, a second and a half behind Walton.

  1. Getting the LMPC in seems a very good descision. Neatly faster than GT2, bit slower than LMP(2) and very competitive. Good job and I won’t miss GT1 in ALMS in this way

  2. i think they should make them a little faster… like a DP… not the same speed as GT1…

  3. making them faster would start bringing up the costs. They’re just fine where they at.

From what we see, grand am teams want to be at this level but the costs had kept them out.

  4. The Aston MArtin isn’t anything to celebrate really. It’s the only manufacturer P1 car out there. All the other top competitors are in P2. It was actually expected to be at the top.

It will have to at least match or beat the P1 Acura’s pace in qualifying and race trim.

  5. LMP-C will get faster as they find the correct settings from the car and some tracks will allow it perform better than others.

Well see the talent levels might run out before the car does, Gunnar I expect to be the faster LMP-C pilot out there period.

Nice times with the AMR Lola but the real proof in the pudding will be just how far are they off the 908-HPDi’s

If Guy Smith puts in most of the heavy lifting, Dyson could challenge 2nd place in LMP2.

I guess less restrictor and ‘08 spec rear wings will be the changes made to allow the LMP-2 cars to run as fast as the LMP-1 cars.

  6. Gunnar Jeanette the fastest…?? There’s this other guy who won LeMans in a Peugeot 905 with Brabs big brother…oh yeah Bouchut. He might have something to say about that.

  7. Ya, Im with Bamba, Tucker is pretty off the pace compared to the other drivers, but never discount Bouchut… and the Genoa squad were impressive too… but Gunnar is not the best for sure…
