The fourth and final four-hour test session kicked took place this afternoon and despite being on top as the flag came out the Aston Martin Racing team was not too happy after the session. Just over one hour into the session the #009 crashed at Turn 1, with significant damage reported.
After the Lola Aston Martin was removed from the track and fifteen minutes had gone, the green flag was waved again, but not even twenty minutes later the red flag came out again when the Dyson Lola Mazda went off at Turn 13. Like yesterday afternoon the red flags kept coming as soon after the #89 Intersport LMPC car went off at Turn 5, with the Black Swan Porsche off between Turns 15 and 16.
While reports got through that Harold Primat was in hospital for checks, but was said to be ok it was the Intersport Lola B06/10 driven by Jon Field that took second position. taking over from David Brabham in the Patrón Highcroft Racing HPD ARX-01c. Unfortunately their team mates in the #89 LMPC car caused another red flag after ending up in the tyres at Turn 13. Four minutes later the track was back to green.
In the remaing 40 minutes the top teams did not improve their position anymore and that meant that Aston Martin Racing left Sebring with four top times in four sessions – and a damaged car. The Fields secured second place in this session and Patrón Highcroft Racing in third place, Pagenaund improving the team’s time by 0.008s 10 minutes before the end of the session.
Dyson Racing and Team CytoSport completed the overall top five. The Lola and Porsche around two seconds slower than the LMP1 Lola Aston.
Best of the LPMC cars was the Genoa Racing Oreca FLM09 of Connor/Wallace/Hildebrand (pictured) in 1:56.753. Green Earth Team Gunnar was second fastest, with the Intersport Racing #11 third in class.
Just like the AM session Risi Competizione was fastest in GT2. Half a second behind the Bruni/Melo driven Ferrari it was the Team Falken Tire Porsche 997 GT3 RSR of Wolf Henzler and Bryan Sellers, with the #01 Extreme Speed Motorsports Ferrari F430 GT2 of Scott Sharp and Johannes van Overbeek setting the third fastest time.
Best of the GTC cars was the #92x Kelly Moss Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of Darrell Carlisle, ahead of the Curtis/Sofronas #32 Porsche and Walton in the #65 Porsche.
As the session ended at 5 pm the teams could start packing and start preparing for next months return to the Sebring International Raceway for the opening round of the 2010 American Le Mans Series.
