Creation Autosportif has withdrawn its entry to the 58th Mobil 1 Sebring 12 Hours race in Florida scheduled for this coming weekend, due to non-performance of one of its principal sponsors.
The Winston-Salem (North Carolina USA) based team was due to debut its Creation CA10-Judd P1 chassis for a full season’s racing in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), however that debut looks more likely now to take place later in the season.
Creation’s Team Owner Michael Jankowski commented “It is exceptionally frustrating for Creation to have to postpone the debut of our new CA10; however, it is important to ensure that our efforts are properly funded as that is the only way to have any future in this sport. The new car ought to be competitive and I look forward to seeing it on the track.”
Commercial Manager Andy Woolgar added “It is by no means an ideal situation we find ourselves in and certainly not the way we wanted to kick things off in 2010. It has been difficult to speak out publicly about our plans due to upholding of contractual obligations from our side, but we are remaining positive and forging ahead”.
(press release)
thats disapointing, i thought they could get a podium
Suprise? hardly..
its suprising to me. i talked to them a couple months ago (august) and Andy W said they were going to have a car faster than the P1 acuras and if they could get good sponsership they could get good drivers. aka they were looking at Mowlem, Luhr, and Andretti (to name a few). therefore they would have been very fast if the had the sponsership with out a doubt!!!
Unfortunately those dreams in August weren’t very well grounded IMO. They had to know in this market sponsorship is hard to come by, especially in the United States. They entered, as a toe in the water to see if they could attract paying drivers, but alas nothing. Hopefully they’ll be working their butts off to find SOMEONE to drive the car.
Dan you are an idiot luhr really wow
dude thats what i heard. i ddnt know if it was true but hey whatever i would rather believe it than not… wouldnt you rather have a fast creation than not. even if they didnt win, which i never expected them too,i would still rather have them there than not. and dont call me an idiot dude. i never said they “signed them” i just said they were looking into them. so maybe your the idiot coleman.
Yeah, unnecessary attack, Coleman. Luhr would have been a surprise based on the fact that he is an Audi driver, but Luhr was at Daytona in the Level 5 car – so anything is possible.
I think the non-performance of the sponsor means that they didn’t have paying drivers come and bring sponsorship (whether from their own bank account or an actual sponsor) and therefore they didn’t have a sponsor to perform.
This was always going to be a non-event.
If the car is fast they should be able to find sponsors. XM and Panasonic want back in, but only with top end competitors.
The only way to find out how good the car is would be to race it. Id they believe in it that much they should take the chance and race it out of their pockets first. No one will take a chance if Creation doesn’t do it first.
Faster than the Acura P1…that’s a pipe dream. That thing is faster than the Oreca 01 and the Lola Aston. And would be faster if it was racing. Cornering flat out is simply a physics and engineering marvel.
Who was the principle sponsor and how much of the total budget, in terms of percentage, did it contribute?
And now we know why they didn’t get an entry or on the reserve list for the 24 Hours…
dan sorry for the “unnecessary attack” but luhr is factory Audi but hell with marco werner being sighned with acura for lemans anything is possible and yea i would love to see a fast creation in the ALMS but all im saying is it would most likely be the same old jamie campbell walter and romain ianetta in the car unfortunatly
ya i know, it isnt likely… i was just saying that was what i heard and i did say it wasnt necessarily true. go to the Creation website or the Facebook page and Luhr was actually dropped by Audi anyway. Him and Werner are stil looking for rides. Werner has Highcroft but Luhr doesnt have a ride yet so it actually might have been understandable… but its all over now anyway… we’ll see them in some races i hear but without that sponser they wont be competitive at all… oh well.
I think Luhr is only dropped from the sportscar program. He still has DTM and will be used to develop the R8 LMS GT3 car.
They just wanted the drivers to be focused on LeMans 24hr, so they can get plenty of testing. That’s why Kristensen is no longer doing DTM either.
But it’s possible creation could sign Luhr for a one off race.
Creation should start designing a P1 car for 2011 that uses a 3.4L judd or zytek engine. That way they can test it all this season and come next year they would already have a competitive P1 car to sell.
Or better yet, since P2 will be using GT2 engines next year, they can start designing a chassis that can accommodate the F430 or Porsche RSR engines. I think those are projects that will interest a sponsor (forward thinking).
