While all the attention is shifting to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 56 cars invited to the blue-ribbon event of the season there will be more races on the Circuit de la Sarthe in just under two weeks time.

Back by popular demand are the Group C cars. In 2008 the Group C cars were also one of the support races during the Le Mans 24 Hours week and this year we’ll see the cars back in action on the 13.629 km long circuit. The winner of the 2008 10-lap race, Justin Law, will return to France albeit with a Jaguar XJR 8 instead of an XJR 12, while 2008 runner-up Mark Sumpter will bring a Porsche 962 again.

At this moment 27 cars are entered, including five Porsches 962, six Jaguars and two Sauber Mercedes (C9 and C11).

  5. Group C should never have died. I always loved it more than F1. It’s stupid. They banned the 962 because it was too good.

  9. It’s a real shame. The backwardness of the racing organizations that ban rotaries. They allow alternative fuels in the 24 hours of Le Mans, but no rotaries. Sports car racing in Europe in some ways falls short of logic, as is true for the sanctioning bodies in America that also ban the rotary . What are they afraid of??? How to correctly calculate what classification they belong in? What a lame excuse!! Mazda as a successful company in racing and overall is attributed to their rotary engine. It’s a shame that much of the racing world fails to realize that and allow this “little engine that could, and does”, shine.
