The third and final qualifying session for the Total 24 Hours of Spa started just after eleven o’clock this evening, some fifteen minutes later than planned due to the red flag in the second session.
Soon after the session had started it was Pedro Lamy who set the fastest time in 2:25.664, still three seconds slower than the provisional pole time set by Gianmaria Bruni.
After thirty minutes the BMW Motorsport cars were first and second. WRT’s nr 73 Audi R8 LMS was third quickest and the ProSpeed Competition Porsche nr 13 was third fastest.
Even though the times started to improve, as the session continued none of the front-runners was able to improve their own time. Gianmaria Bruni took over first place in the session with just over five minutes left in the session by setting a 2:23.086. Two minutes later it was Peter Kox who managed to get the nr 84 Reiter Engineering Lamborghini Gallardo up into second place.
Just before the chequered flag came out there was contact between the nr 1 AF Corse ALD Team Vitaphone Ferrari and the nr 7 Trackspeed Porsche at turn 7.
On the last lap Andrea Piccini went fastest with a 2:23.022, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the nr2 AF Corse ALD Team Vitaphone Ferrari F430 GT2 from taking pole position for the 63rd Total 24 Hours of Spa.
