Team Oreca Matmut was quickest in the first free practice session on a hot Hungaroring circuit. The Peugeot 908 HDi FAP of Stephane Sarrazin was the fastest of 38 cars running in the session this afternoon.
Sarrazin set the fastest time, a 1:35.853, and was was miles away from the rest of the field. While the other LMP’s were quite far behind it was Jonny Kane in the Strakka Racing HPD ARX-01c who got agonizingly close. Kane managed to set a 1:36.096, beating all of the other LMP cars that were behind the Peugeot. Neel Jani (Rebellion Racing) got close as well, but he finished the session about a tenth of a second behind Kane.
Quifel-ASM, Beechdean Mansell Motorsport and Signature completed the overall top six.
In the Formula Le Mans cars it was the DAMS car of Jody Firth and Darren Manning that was quickest. Firth posted a 1:46.000, over four tenths of a second quicker than nearest rivals Hope PoleVision Racing and Applewood Seven.
In GT2 it was the CRS Racing Ferrari F430 GT2 that was quickest around the Hungarian track. Andrew Kirkaldy posted a 1:48.180, just quick enough to keep AF Corse’s Fisichella and Westbrook’s Porsche behind him.
A few car hit problems this session. The Felbermayr-Proton number 77, one of three Felbermayr-Proton entries this weekend, stopped, rejoined and stopped again on the track, while the Spyker Squadron Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2R suffered a clutch problem that held them in the pits for a long time.
The Acura is well at home on this circuit. What it was built for.
