The third and final free practice session on Saturday took place in absolute darkness. And it wasn’t just the circumstances that had changed.
Rebellion Racing took the first two places, with their number 12 Lola B10/60 Rebellion fastest by about half a second. Neel Jani posted a 1:34.807, with Jean-Christophe Boullion setting a 1:35.338.
Team Oreca Matmut tried to respond but Nicolas Lapierre’s hot lap was stopped by a red flag as a result of the number 91 CRS Racing Ferrari of Tim Mullen coming to a halt at turn 7. A brief fire was quickly extinguished, but it meant the end of the session.
Strakka Racing was quickest in LMP2 again, this time 2.419 seconds from the Rebellion number 12. The gap to the second placed LMP2 car, the number 35 OAK Racing Pescarolo was also over 2.5 seconds. Racing Box (or should we say MIK Racing) was third fastest with the number 30. A strong performance by RLR msport gave them fifth in class and tenth overall. Applewood Seven took first place in the FLM class.
In GT2 the CRS Racing car was fastest, but as mentioned it caught fire just before the end of the session after an engine failure. Fortunately it wasn’t too serious. The number 77 Felbermayr-Proton Porsche was second fastest after a lot of problems throughout the day, while AF Corse’s number 95 was third. The top six was within a second of each other.
Larbre Competition was quickest in GT1, the other Saleen of Atlas eFX Team FS did not participate.
