Six manufacturers have officially entered the first ILMC

The first ILMC, a project dear to the heart of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, has been launched and has all the makings of a revenge match of this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours. No fewer than six manufacturers will do battle in the biggest events of the different Le Mans Series to try and win the first ILMC Trophy in history.

* 6 manufacturers for 2 titles

Two manufacturers’ titles in the LM P1 and LM GT2 categories will be awarded in the ILMC. In LM P1, Audi and Peugeot have both entered works teams and the result will be a top-quality duel.

The Ingolstadt firm has entered two Audi TDI R15 Pluses under the Audi Sport Team Joest banner. They won the 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours and made history by setting a new distance record in the Sarthe classic.

French company Peugeot has also entered a couple of Peugeot 908 HDi FAPs, which have been the yardstick in endurance ‘made in Le Mans,’ in the Peugeot Sport colours. Peugeot can also count on the ORECA team, but at Silverstone only.

The French squad will be out for revenge. Both Audi and Peugeot will use the intercontinental battle to showcase their technology.

In the GT2 category, there will not be a duel. Instead there will be a no-holds-barred battle between four prestigious makes
– Porsche, BMW, Jaguar and of course, Ferrari.
Porsche, the current Le Mans title holder will be represented by Flying Lizard in the USA, and Felbermayr-Proton and Prospeed in Europe and China. The manufacturer from Weissach will also enter the brand-new ground-breaking Porsche GT hybrid in America and in China, which will run outside the classification ; proof of the interest of the LE MANS races as a boratory for new technologies.

Ferrari will be out for revenge after its Le Mans setback. Risi Competizione will represent the Prancing Horse in the USA, and AF Corse and CRS in Europe and China.

BMW Motorsport, which has entered a BMW GT2, will be represented by the Rahal-Letterman team in the USA, and the Schnitzer team in Europe and China.

Jaguar, determined to add another chapter to its glorious past, will enter two cars (XKR) in the USA and China.

* Trophies for the teams

In addition to the manufacturers’ titles, the ILMC will also award 4 titles to the teams that will enable them to win invitations for the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours in each of the four categories, a move that has attracted the Drayson Racing Lola-Judd coupe and Aston Martin Racing in LM P1.

In LM P2, the French OAK Racing squad will take on the Mik Racing team’s Lola.

In GT1, the Larbre Competition (Saleen), Jloc (Lamborghini), FX Atlas (Saleen) and Nova (Aston Martin) teams will fight to win the swansong title in this category.
And last but not least, the ACO in keeping with its promotional aims (a low-cost channel for promotion), has given the Formula Le Mans cars currently racing in the ALMS and LMS (14 in all) the opportunity to compete in the Chinese round of the ILMC.

* Silverstone, Petit Le Mans and Zhuhai… 3 exceptional events :

The Silverstone 1000 kms, the final round of the 2010 LMS and European leg of the championship, will kick off the ILMC on 11-12 September with a field of 47 cars!
The 2nd round held on the American continent will be the Petit Le Mans on the Road Atlanta circuit on 1-2 October with 48 cars at the start.
The first titles in the championship’s history will be awarded when the ILMC pitches its tent in China on the Asian continent for the third round, the Zhuhai 1000 kms between 5-7 November: some 25 to 30 entrants are expected for the final.

* Rolex too enters the ILMC

The famous, prestigious Swiss watchmaker, a major partner in the Le Mans 24 Hours, is now the ILMC’s official time piece and time-keeping partner. Rolex and many other famous brands like Audi, Peugeot, DHL, Michelin, Dunlop and Shell will add their colours to the brand-new ILMC logo unveiled in this press release.

  1. So Aston Martin and Drayson are entered for the team battle not Manufactor.. got it ;)

I dont get the 4 inviations for 2011 24 hours of Le Mans though. GT1 isn’t allowed i thought anymore? So unless the 4th invitation is going to a Formula LM team, then im not sure.

  5. I think so Coleman, i remember reading before Oak was planning on going to Petit, not 100% about China though. They did compete in the Asian LMS 2009 though. So there will probably be a good chance they will do it again.

  10. Hmm i wonder if those GT1 teams still get invites to 2011 24hrs… but they use the invite to enter a different class car instead, i think thats what Highcroft did.

  12. Six manufacturers? Jaguar was announced at Silverstone, isn’t there and should be racing with two (!!!!) cars at Petit and Zhuhai. Did the (sole) car ever finish properly? I’ve got a lot of doubts about this project AND about ILMC. I can’t imagine that there will be a series next year with about 40 cars in all different categories all over the world. Who can pay this ( with exemption of real factoryteams )? On the other hand, knowing that there is only 40 years of oilproduction left, is there still a future for enduranceracing??? And now, i’m still not talking about the green guys…

  13. 40 years of oil production left…you’re really too deep into unsubstantiated claims. Come back to reality.

  14. I think hes talking about the ‘rumor’ theres only 40 years left of oil in the GULF.

Siberia and other parts of the world still have huge amounts of oil. No one knows for sure how much oil is exactly under Siberia but if its anything like Alaska.. it will be in larger amounts.

So dont worry about oil, as for privateer teams, hopefully like i said before ACO will maybe pay for travel costs for them. I have faith the ACO will do anything to try and make the LMCUP a success.

  15. NO rumors, including all reserves… at the rate of consumption these days…. Most people don’t wanna see reality… and i don’t believe in the ACO as a bunch of proper businessmen, not at all…

    Posted by HD | September 7, 2010, 21:05
  16. okay… thanks for the information, not that i really care but okay. its not like racing has an affect on oil consumtion and honestly, in 40 years, if we arent flying space ships to get to work, we dont deserve the oil anymore…

    Posted by Dan | September 7, 2010, 21:09
  17. in 40 years they will all be racing in hybrids and HD how does that even have to do with anything ?

    Posted by coleman | September 7, 2010, 23:09
  18. Well it’s not lemans or any of its series that need to worry about oil it’s F1, Nascar, NHRA, Indy…etc.

But we’re here to talk car racing…if the ACO wanted to fill the grids they will make petrol and diesel equal. So many are on the sidelines with so called “green tech” they wouldn’t mind showing off.
