The 2010 American Le Mans Series (ALMS) season finale is this weekend at Road Atlanta, but Yokohama Tire Corporation is already gearing up for 2011. The Fullerton, California-based tire company announced today at a press conference it has signed a deal with West Racing Team to provide ADVAN® tires for the team’s two sleek Lamborghinis, which will campaign in the ALMS GT Class.

“ADVAN represents Yokohama’s motorsports heritage,” said Mark Chung, Yokohama director, corporate strategy and planning,” and we’ve had quite a bit of success at the track with them over the last quarter century. From the eco-friendly, orange oil-infused ADVAN ENV-R2 tires used today in GT3 and GTC, to the ADVAN slicks campaigned in GT2, racing has always been the perfect opportunity to showcase Yokohama’s technical capabilities.

“This will be especially true next year on West Racing’s Lamborghinis. That’s why we’re look forward to a successful, winning relationship with owner Eduardo Espindola and his team.”

Espindola, an international businessman, said, “Simply put, I chose Yokohama because of their great history in motorsports and solid reputation. We have the same values, vision and expectations and in one word, it means success.

“I’m a passionate guy and I feel Yokohama is the same way. Just look at the success of their motorsports programs and their ADVAN race tires. I truly believe Yokohama and their hi-tech know-how will be a perfect fit on our West Racing Team’s Lamborghinis. I can’t wait until next season begins.”

Chung agreed: “With the Ferraris, Porsches, Corvettes and everyone else battling it out, we feel the GT Class is going to be super competitive and a lot of fun. The West Racing Lamborghinis will be right in the mix and ready for the challenge.”

Celebrating its 40th anniversary in the United States, Yokohama Tire Corporation is the North American manufacturing and marketing arm of Tokyo, Japan-based The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., a global manufacturing and sales company of premium tires since 1917. 2. Don’t know nothing about this team.

But, first Falken Tire team, now ADVAN/Yokohama Tire. Who’s is next?? The more the better!

  3. Are these Lambo’s going to be built from the Euro side. I can only recall that GT2/GT Lambo’s are run in the LMS, not in the ALMS. It’s great though!

  4. Talking about winning already??? They better have loads of cash. The drivers, the car updates, the engineers….you will really get what you pay for.

The Lambo has been plagued by Audi’s lack of development on it.

The ALMS is a better series to run an “unrefined” car, since they would be able to look at your vehicle and tailor specs just for your car (as long as it can be fairly competitive and your drivers are fairly fast and good).

  5. This is great news glad to see the gt2 class get better than it already is. Seeing a lambo running laps will be great to watch.

  6. Great, but why not race a Spyker or P&M Chevrolet Corvette? Glad to see support from Yokohama Advan.

  8. This will add even more variety to the ALMS GT2 class, although I doubt that the Lambo’s will be front runners. Probably these two cars will be just bought from Reiter Engineering in Germany, that will sell the cars run in GT1 this year to West Racing while building up new cars for the 2011 GT1 season.

  11. We’ll see…

Personally, I’d rather see a factory two car Aston effort in GT2. The tracks would be more suited to the Vantage than those in Europe and JMW made massive advances with it this season with reliability and speed.

  12. Listening to Prodrive they basically said it was a nightmare trying to keep up development pace with Corvette racing in GT1.

They’re unlikely to come back to such a crowded field so far away from home. The JMW team is mainly backed by Dunlop.

Aston would probably only come back if somehow they felt the vantage is a pure bred race winning car.
