The third and final round of the brand new Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) is taking place on 6th and 7th November. Zhuhai in China is acting as host for this final major endurance race of the season, namely the 1000 Km of Zhuhai. The ILMC championship dreamed up by the ACO, the promoter of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, ushered in a new era with its debut some two months previously in Silverstone, that of an endurance world championship.
The race in Silverstone was in fact a great debut for the Belgian ProSpeed Competition team with a second place in the LM GT2 class for the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of the German-British duo Marco Holzer and Richard Westbrook. In China ProSpeed Competition are competing with the British-Chinese duo Richard Westbrook and Darryl O’Young. In addition the Belgian team is one of the two official Porsche representatives in China.
“In China our major assignment is to assist Porsche in gaining the constructors title in the ILMC”, Rudi Penders commented looking ahead to the trip to Asia. “Following the races in Silverstone and Petit Le Mans Porsche has nine points less than Ferrari, but with still more than thirty to be shared out nothing has been decided as yet. Together with Team Felbermayr Proton we will do everything in our power to offer Porsche the title. The fight for the teams title is also wide open, but with only car, as opposed to some of our competitors entering two, we have less chance, even though I would love to finish in the top-5, if not the top-3 even. On top of that in the second race at Petit Le Mans in the USA we were not present.”
For China ProSpeed Competition is calling on the services of Richard Westbrook and Darryl O’Young. “I’m delighted to be working once again with Darryl in China”, Luc Goris remarked. “We had previously worked together in the past and that went very smoothly. This season Darryl opted to compete in the WTCC, but a home race in a Porsche was something he didn’t want to miss and it is a mark of confidence that he has once again chosen us.”
Darryl O’Young is facing a busy period in Asia with over four weekends two WTCC rounds (Japan and Macau) and the ILMC race in Zhuhai.
