Gulf AMR Middle East to miss 6 Hours of Imola

The Gulf AMR Middle East team will be absent from next weekend’s fourth round of the 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup at Imola in Italy after withdrawing from the meeting for reasons of Force Majeure.

The injuries sustained by one of the team’s three full-season drivers in an accident involving the No. 60 Aston Martin Vantage GTE-Am entry at the 24 Hours of Le Mans will prevent him from competing at Imola. Mike Wainwright (GB) was hospitalised after the accident and – while recovering well from a broken rib and other injuries associated with a high-speed impact – will not be fit in time for the Italian round.

The Aston Martin Vantage was heavily damaged at Le Mans and the decision has been taken by the Gulf AMR Middle East team to concentrate on fully re-preparing the car and waiting for all three drivers – Fabien Giroix, Roald Goethe and Mike Wainwright – to be fit and ready for the next round of the ILMC at Silverstone in September.

  1. Its a shame, lets hope that car can find some decent reliability because they have yet to finish a race in 2011!

  2. If it can find some reliabilty it would win some races because it proved to be very quick at Le Mans before it broke
