Stéphane Sarrazin to join Toyota for Le Mans – Update

Stéphane Sarrazin will drive #8 for TOYOTA Racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans next June. He will be at the wheel of the second TS030 HYBRID with Anthony Davidson and Sébastien Buemi.

Hiroaki Ishiura was unable to take place in the Toyota due to a back complaint. During the first tests of the TS030 HYBRID, Hiroaki experienced discomfort in his back due to the higher g-forces experienced in an LMP1 car.

Sarrazin has large experience in endurance racing as his first race was in a Courage Pescarolo at the 1000km of Spa in 2003. Since 2007 Sarrazin was driver for the Peugeot Sport squad until Peugeot had to resigned at the beginning of this year.

Earlier this week the ACO announced the line-up for the 24 hours race where Sarrazin was confirmed at Starworks Motorsport. His seat in Starkworks’ HPD ARX03 Honda will be taken over by Tom Kimber-Smith to complete their driver Line-up for Le Mans.

  1. Very good news. Looking at Toyota’s driver line up, one can’t help but think that their Le Mans effort for 2012 will not just be a ‘learning year’…

  2. Now we’ve all witnessed what Stephane Sarrazin can do when qualifying time comes around. Somehow he manages to push the car even further than what it’s capable of. Yes, I know the Peugeot 908 HDIs had unquestionable speed and hp; but let’s see what happens behind the wheel of the Toyota TS030. I really can’t wait ’till June now!

  3. Terrific, this adds more pressure for Audi. Toyota not paying these top drivers to be window dressing, should be interesting. Hopefully not an Audi run a way. GT classes may steal the show like Sebring.

  4. This line up is a bit of a Dream Team. Davidson is awesome, and a fantastic qualifier, Buemi is of course ex F1 and has loads to prove, and Sarrazin is an established Prototype racer with credibility. One to watch indeed.

Am pretty sure they won’t beat the Audi tho.

  5. I’m unconvinced by Buemi but to me, Davidson is the best LMP1 driver at the moment.
