The City Challenge is in town! That was the message sent out to the people in Baku today when a spectacular parade of powerful GT3 race cars drove from the temporary street circuit near the seaside all the way up to the Kempinski Hotel Badamdar, the official hospitality partner of the event. The race cars were on display in front of the hotel where an official press conference and presentation was held and drivers were present to sign autographs for the spectators. Another autograph session was held at the Park Boulevard. The parade was the official kick-off for the threeday City Challenge event, which will see sports car races and demonstrations on a temporary street circuit around the famous Government House and a wide range of cultural activities.
“Race cars on streets in beautiful cities are playing a major role in the City Challenge philosophy, so showing the cars during the parade in the fantastic city of Baku was a logical thing to do,” says Hartmut Beyer, C.E.O. of the German City Challenge GmbH that organises the event in close co-operation with Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Sport and Youth. “City Challenge is a great way to promote the city of Baku and the country of Azerbaijan to a worldwide audience, with TV broadcasts in 120 countries, reaching almost 300 million households. To make the local people in Baku aware of the event, this parade was a fantastic appetizer. Team members and drivers loved the experience to drive their race cars up the streets, even though they would have liked to go faster… But they have the next three days to drive fast on the circuit!”
