SRO expects 70 GT3 cars for Total 24 Hours of Spa

470_astonmartin_silverstone_bes_mtcEven though we’re still almost two months away from the 2013 Total 24 Hours of Spa SRO has announced it expects to see no fewer than 70 GT3 cars racing at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit at the end of July for the fourth round of the Blancpain Endurance Series.

Just after the Silverstone round the entry for the Total 24 Hours of Spa stands at 70 cars and further additions are not ruled out. With manufacturer support for various teams this years race will have quantity as well as quality and it might well become one of the best editions ever.

“The first two races of the series showed how much this formula appeals to people”, says Frédéric Maeyens, General Manager of the RACB. “Since 2001 and the advent of GT cars in the 24 Hours, this race has not stopped growing in terms of quantity and quality in the field. Year after year, it has become a huge success. As we have done for more than ten years, we reiterate our trust to SRO and to all the partners supporting the Total 24 Hours of Spa.”

A first provisional entry list, without drivers or any further details, has revealed that there will be at least nine brands represented in Belgium. Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes, Nissan and Porsche all have at least two teams racing in the Total 24 Hours of Spa.

Next to the regular Blancpain Endurance Series there are several new additions. GPR AMR is one of them, the Belgian squad set to run the ‘works’ Aston Martin Vantage that won at Silverstone. Schubert Motorsport and ADAC GT Masters Drivers Championship leaders’ DB Motorsport are the additional teams for BMW and for Mercedes HTP Motorsport is set to join from the FIA GT Series. Several teams have entered a Porsche, with Fach Auto Tech, Manthey Racing, Porsche Lorient, Alfab Racing and Timbuli Racing all set to join the regular Porsche teams at Spa-Francorchamps.
