There was news today from Italy where FG GROUP announced the GT Sprint International Series is set to continue under a new name, EUROGTSPRINT. The future of the series was unclear after promoter Superstars World of Racing SpA, part of FG GROUP, closed down the Superstars Series at the end of the 2013 season.
FG GROUP has contracted ADM Organization to run the series from their headquarters in Vallelunga, while FG GROUP will manage marketing and communication in a partnership with WIGE Media and Rome-based Garage Group,
In addition to a new name the format of the weekends will also change. For the 2014 season two 40-minute races without mandatory pit stops are scheduled instead of the 1-hour races in 2013. In 2010 the series started with two 25-minute races, before going to two 30-minute races in 2012 and then 1-hour races last year.
EUROGTSPRINT is an FIA Authorized Series racing at seven venues this season. The season will begin on April 6th at Monza. The second round will be held on the 4th of May at the Hungaroring, followed by a trip to Mugello on May 18th. Brno will be visited on June 22nd before moving to Portimão on the 20th of July. After a visit to Magny-Cours on September 7th the season finale will be held at Imola on October 12th. The series will share weekends with FIA WTCC, Ferrari Challenge, GT Tour and the Italian GT Championship.
