Ram Racing signs Alvaro Parente for FIA WEC

470_ramracing52_imola_dppiFurther to the confirmation last week of its entry to the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship, Ram Racing has finalised its driver line up for the LMGTE Pro No.52 entry.

Joining Irishman Matt Griffin in the blue and white Ferrari 458 Italia will be Alvaro Parente of Portugal. The former British F3 and World Series by Renault Champion is on loan to Ram Racing from McLaren GT, and is a major boost to the young British team’s WEC plans.

The 29-year-old from Oporto moved from single-seaters in 2012 and has competed in GT racing for McLaren for the last two years, most recently for Sebastien Loeb Racing in the FIA GT Series, finishing 4th overall.

Dan Shufflebottom, Team Principal of Ram Racing, said of the signing: “We really chuffed to have come to an agreement with both Alvaro and McLaren. To have someone of his calibre alongside Matt, who we know can deliver the goods from his Championship-winning ELMS season last year, is a major boost to our chances of success. We are the only non-factory entry in the LMGTE Pro category but that’s not going to stop our ambitions for success in any way, shape or form. We think the Parente-Griffin partnership will be right up there alongside our competitors.”

Alvaro Parente also commented: “This is a new and exciting challenge for me! The World Endurance Championship is a strong competition that is growing and where you can find strong teams and drivers. RAM Racing won the 2013 ELMS LMGTE Pro championship and I can feel it’s an ambitious team with the will to succeed. Matt is a very good racing driver, so I think we have all the right ingredients to fight for good results during the season. As always, I’ll do my best and I hope to justify the confidence that RAM Racing showed in me. I also would like to thank McLaren GT for allowing me to tackle this new challenge”.

The FIA WEC begins on 20th April at Ram Racing’s home track of Silverstone in the UK then travels to Belgium, France (Le Mans), USA, Japan, China, Bahrain and Brazil. For more information go to www.fiawec.com or look on Ram Racing’s website www.ramracing.com
