An LMP2 dominated test saw Penske emerge on top as the action started at the Laguna Seca circuit just outside Monterey in California. A two-hour session on the famous track ended with the #7 Porsche Spyder leading the pack in 1:11.248, courtesy of Timo Bernhard. As we get close to dusk, racing is still pretty close at Road Atlanta. 8 hours gone, 2 to go and as usual in Endurance anything can happen. Stay with us as we keep updating minute by minute every alternative of the 2008 Petit Le Mans[…]
The battle continues as we push towards mid-race point. We have had some important retirements but the main duels are still very much active: Audi vs Peugeot, Porsche vs Acura, Ferrari vs Porsche. There’s still much more to experience in a Petit Le Mans plagued by yellow flags but with plenty of emotions still unfolding….
Everything ready for the 11th running of the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. Peugeot barely snatching the pole position from Audi was the final demonstration of how close things have become in the closing months of the 2008 season. Close battles are expected at both prototype classes as well as GT2. Many records broken, championships at stake….what else could one ask? So sit back, relax and keep refreshing your browser while we cover this one for you minute by minute until the chequered flag!
In what promises to be a very attractive race, 38 entries will be taking to the track at Road Atlanta this Saturday dition of the 10-hour long Petit Le Mans. An unusual amount of LMP1s plus the usual hard-fought LMP2 and GT2 fields are more than enough reason not to lose even one minute of this American Classic.
Two of this year’s Le Mans 24 Hour race winners Dindo Capello (Italy) and Allan McNish (Scotland) strengthen the Audi driver squad at the 1000-mile race Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta (Georgia) on 4 October. Audi is unbeaten to date in this classic US long-distance race. The Audi R8 won six times in succession between 2000 and 2005. In 2006 and 2007, Dindo Capello and Allan McNish triumphed with the Audi R10 TDI diesel-powered sportscar.
Within the Silverstone 1000km official program a Peugeot advertisement announced triumphantly: “4 down, 1 to go”. Something tells me that the marketing person in charge of this ad at Peugeot does not get many compliments after Sunday. It was Audi’s day, the same way it had been at Le Mans, reliability and teamwork projecting the Ingolstadt squad once more to the very top.
Audi still in the lead just over half race point, van Merksteijn on top in LMP2, Modena and Virgo also keep their lead in the GT classes…. The sun shines now all over the track so we should have a perfect race weather until the end in a few hours.
Clouded skies again at Silverstone, as it has been the whole weekend. Apparently the chances of rain are slim but we cannot discard an unpleasant surprise on the weather department. Peugeot departs from the front row but Audi had not been as close the whole season, so this is promising. On the other classes very close fights in perspective on both GT classes, LMP2 with 3 different makes in the top 3… Stay with us as we report you minute by minute all the action from Silverstone!
Here’s the new Peugeot Hybrid, more to follow…
