Strakka Racing’s remarkable season continues to break records, with a first ever outright win for an LMP2 car in Europe at the Hungaroring yesterday evening. Following on from the squad’s class win at Le Mans in June, which established a new benchmark for LMP2 in terms of pace, distance and overall position, the Strakka HPD rewrote the history books again in Round 4 of the 2010 Le Mans Series in Hungary. After finishing third at the 1000km of Algarve, Vanina Ickx once again found herself on the LMP1 podium of the 1000km of Hungaroring, the fourth round of the Le Mans Series. After starting from the back of the grid, as it’s required by the sporting regulations when changing tyres after qualifying, Vanina worked her way up the field to fifth place overall during her stint in the Lola-Aston Martin. A turbulent race weekend is behind the Atlas eFX-Team FS, who had high expectations to the top. After the last race in Portimao (P), the engine had to be replaced. An unpredictable oil leak made a participation in the training sessions impossible. The mechanics repaired the damage overnight to be able to start the qualifying session. In the second corner of the just started Qualifying one wheel hub broke. Consequently, the team had to start from the back row on Sunday afternoon.[...]
The fourth race of the Le Mans Series on the Hungarian F1 circuit in Budapest was on the programme this last weekend. One month after the Algarve the Prototypes and GTs were once again facing a 1000 km evening race, held this time around on Sunday evening. Once again the Belgian ProSpeed Competition entered the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR for the German-British duo of Marco Holzer and Richard Westbrook.[...]
The race in Budapest started in the best possible way for AF corse: apart from the pole position, the team managed to reach the second and fourth position. Cars started the race without problems and Alesi, Fisichella and Vilander reached the leading position. Just after them Alvaro Barba and Alvaro Parente, while the Argentinean crew keep their starting position without any difficulties. [...]
Kent-based racing driver Phil Quaife was pleased with his pace in the Hungaroring 1000kms at the weekend even though he and CRS Racing co-driver Pierre Ehret didn’t get the result they deserved in their GT2 class Ferrari F430.[...]
The #24 OAK Racing Pescarolo-Judd of Matthieu Lahaye and Jacques Nicolet finished in a superb third place in last night’s Hungaroring 1000kms, round 4 of the 2010 Le Mans Series. In only their third race the Beechdean Mansell Motorsport team took the chequered flag to record their first Le Mans Series win at the 1000km of the Hungaroring in Hungary. Leo and Greg Mansell shared the driving duties in the 6 hour race on the tight and twisty 3.7km track and it was older brother Leo who took the chequered flag, winning LMP1 and finishing 7th overall, after a gruelling race that saw many of their rivals fall by the wayside.[...]
Tom Coronel and Peter Dumbreck took a ninth place finish in the fourth round of the Le Mans Series season at the Hungaroring near Budapest tonight.
